SUMMARY:The Enterprise – The Tacoma Underworld
DESCRIPTION:Decades ago\, Tacoma had a darker side—one that operated in the shadows and was rarely spoken about openly. The Tacoma Underworld was alive and well\, and during the 1970s\, arson\, bribery\, extortion\, illegal gambling\, and organized crime cast a long\, uneasy shadow over the city. \nNames like Janovich and Carbone were only pieces of a much larger gangland network known as “The Enterprise.” Business owners were intimidated. Buildings went up in flames. Families were threatened. And behind closed doors\, plans were made that could end in murder. \nThese weren’t just stories whispered in back rooms—they were crimes that left scars on Tacoma and changed the way people lived. Doors were locked earlier. Businesses looked over their shoulders. And the threat of a Molotov cocktail could turn an ordinary night into something terrifying. \nCome hear the stories of Tacoma’s underworld—the men who ruled through fear\, the fires that left their mark\, and the violence that lurked just beneath the surface of the city.

SUMMARY:History of Woodbrook Hunt Club
DESCRIPTION:Little is known about the origination of the Woodbrook Club\, however\, newspaper articles dating back to 1911 mention the club.  The first benefactor of the Club was Tacoma Banker Chester Thorne and his wife Anna. In 1926\, a large property near the Fort Lewis Reservation soon became an area for horse riding\, jumps and drag hunts.  Residents from all over Tacoma came to the Woodbrook Hunt Club to learn horseback riding\, picnic or participated in morning hunts.  Well known Tacoma residents such as George Weyerhaeuser\, Rene Lechner\, Donald Cameron\, Betty Briggs\, James Happy & Billie Jean Rust are just a few who were longtime club members. \nBe a part of the Woodbrook Clubs 100-year celebrations and hear the stories of Tom and Jerry parties\, hound dogs and how Tacoma rides into the sunset.

SUMMARY:USS Lexington; How a Navy Ship saved Tacoma
DESCRIPTION:The Summer of 1929 was exceptionally dry and the Fall was not better\, significantly draining Tacoma’s electricity.  The shortage became so critical that Superintendent Ira S. Davisson had to cut power to homes and businesses. In December 1929\, there were several discussions between the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce and lumber mill operators to shift their employees to night shifts. City of Tacoma leaders pleaded with President Herbert Hoover for much needed help.  President Hoover handed off this request to the United States Navy and on December 17\, 1929 the USS Lexington arrived in Tacoma. Hear how the carrier’s four steam turbine propulsion generators create 35\,200 kilowatts each\, saving the city and her residents.
